***365 gratitude project: Day 179

Day 179 (Tuesday, June 26):

today's photo and gratitude are especially important
because one of b's former students was killed in a tragic accident on saturday.
this 17 year old boy was a kind, smart, and caring young guy
who had a promising future and a glowing past.
to be taken so suddenly from everyone who knew and loved him
is just incredibly awful to even imagine.
b went to the wake last night,
and he brought home a note that the boy's father had written about his son.
the father expressed regret about being a "demanding" father,
and it is this regret that really breaks my heart.
despite all the opportunities that his son had,
what this father is left with is feelings of sadness for how he parented.

so, with a heavy heart,
today i am especially grateful for my girls and their health,
for the fun times we have shared together and have yet to share,
and for our lives together.
what i want more than anything in the world
is for my girls to be happy and to know that they are loved.
living in nyc, where the pressure to get into private schools
and top colleges is on most parents' minds,
i hope to always remember to honor my girls as the individuals they are
and to remember to cherish every day.

stop for a moment today to think about your loved ones
and to realize just how much you mean to one another.
if you are a parent, maybe give your kids an extra tight squeeze
or a longer than normal cuddle.
those are the moments that will probably mean the most to us
as time passes.

xoxo
Katie
