We want to use a terrazzo-type material for the countertops and the flooring in our kitchen. I"m tired of granite (it is in almost every kitchen you see), don't want to use marble (even though I think it looks beautiful as a countertop) because it stains more easily than other materials, think that slate or concrete is not quite warm enough, and need to get rid of the laminate that we have now.
I did some research and found a company called
Icestone whose materials are made of recycled glass and concrete. The result is a beautiful terrazzo which has some depth in color and shine. Our cabinets are going to be white and our appliances are going to be stainless steel, so we're leaning towards the neautrals among these colors:
